My uncle, Staff Sgt. Vernom R Anderson, was captured at the Battle of the Bulge and sent to Bad Orb. Difficult to tell, but he may have been one of the soldiers with the caison, near the end of the film.

1973 Med cruise. I was in RVAH-14. Fond memories of the ocean. Food? Not so great but we didnt starve either. That old Vigilante took up a lot of space, but was one the best looking airframes the Navy ever had.

Son born Nov of 1972. Loved our time there. Much has changed since then, now lots of Guamanians coming to the U.S. I lovum all. //ji John - Salem, Oregon

Myth: The Viet Cong were an idealistic nationalist group, just like the American Minutemen Fact: The Viet Cong was a dedicated communist organization commanded by Ho Chi Minh and engaged in assassinations of their opponents from 1945 on. The Viet Cong engaged in acts of terror as a matter of policy; grenades and bombs thrown into public venues, assassinations of police officers and army officials, etc. From the beginning, in 1941, the Viet Cong systematically eliminated their opposition by betraying them to the French Beginning in 1945 they began using assassinations and violence to eliminate opposition leaders and intimidate peasants into supporting them. During the Tet offensive, the Viet Cong murdered more than 5000 civilians in Hue by strangulation and burying them alive. The Viet Cong used torture and murder of village leaders to intimidate the rural population into compliance with their goals

Looks like you fellas' are building the hooch I would occupy from late 68' to 3/69', when a huge lighting strike blew it up....it didn't burn though....just shit blown everywhere. @@harrybkidd Hey, Harry. Sounds like we did much the same jobs using the same gear. Those old Marconi b/w "boat anchor" cameras and Ampex 1002 VTR were monsters to maintain and keep aligned. When we got back from the Med cruise, I got TAD orders to NARF Norfolk for several months and helped the sand crab mechanics overhaul all that PLAT equipment. In by 7:30 and secured by 3PM, Mon-Fri. No watches. Gravy assignment!

Wow my Marine Corps tank company was in Fallujah fall of 2004 for Phantom Fury. Seeing a tank hose down targets with coax and main gun is surreal. We studied the battle of Hue in using tanks in urban fighting and those lessons came in handy.

Because VC sappers moved from house to house while fighting, they blew up holes to connect each adjacent house. During the battle of An Lộc in 1972, ARVN 81st Commando also used this same method while fighting those VC sappers.

Those ARVN who wear brown beret (or red), are they the commanding officers so that they don't need to wear a helmet? It's kind of weird because it seems to be so easy to point out the officer, which makes them good priority target for the enemy to take out first.

    • @Chiller01

Vietnamese in red berets we’re from the ARVN Airborne division. I wasn’t in country till 69 but I believe it was the ARVN 7th and 2nd Airborne battalions that assaulted the cemetery and later the Citadel in Hue City with heavy losses. They were among the best South Vietnamese troops during the war.
